Community Resources

Industrial Parks by
themselves do not guarantee that a business will prosper.
There needs to be community resources in place as well, and
Grant County has those resources.
The Grant Memorial
Hospital is the region's only general and surgical hospital.
The 61-bed facility has a 24-hour physician-staffed emergency
room, an obstetrics wing, intensive care unit and a full range
of medical and surgical services along with the latest diagnostic
equipment and procedures. As a community hospital, there is
an extensive outreach program to promote preventative health
care strategies.
The Grant County school
system is a model of excellence and achievement, and the citizens
of Grant County willingly take on supplemental educational
levies to support and provide for programs and classes not
often found in a rural school system. The county provides
well for its students and teachers and one measure of success
is the number of awards given to the Grant County schools.
For college-level education,
Shepherd College has a branch campus in Petersburg that provides
instruction leading to Associate degrees in many areas.
Adjacent to the Petersburg
Schools campus is the South Branch Vocational-Technical Center,
which provides training for students and adults from the neighboring
counties of Hardy and Pendleton, as well as those of Grant
County. Students here can be trained job-specific skills appropriate
to any business locating in the county. The Center actively
cooperates with local business in curricula design.
